I’m having a Scottish day and invited my friend Ashe Barker along.
Hi Jaye, and thank you so much for inviting me back over to your blog to chat a little about my latest release, Shared by the Highlanders. The book has been doing really well on Amazon, which is particularly fabulous because it was such a dream to write. It brings together several of my favourite erotic romance themes – time travel, historical romance, and of course two sexy highlanders. I suppose I’m not the only one to get silly over a man in a kilt. Or better still, two.
So, here’s what it’s all about….
Charlie is not having a good day.
She is enjoying a solitary hike across Helvellyn when a sudden mist descends. Not a problem, she’ll just make camp and wait it out. Enter two sexy men in kilts, and her plans take a different turn.
Will and Robbie are deeply suspicious when they first meet this odd little Sassenach. She says weird things, possesses healing skills they have never encountered before, and is dressed in the oddest clothing. They can’t work out who she is or why she’s out there alone in the fog. At first the sexy Scots don’t even realise their peculiar little companion is a female, and for want of a better idea conclude she must be a thief. They decide the best way to make sure she doesn’t rob them and make off with their horses while they sleep will be the simple expedient of tying her to a tree all night.
Of course Charlie is terrified. Accosted, tied up, held captive – this is not the sort of thing she ever expected to encounter on a Cumbrian hillside. But as long as they think she’s a boy she’s probably safe. It’s only a matter of time though until these rough highlanders realise their mistake and decide to apply a little sixteenth century justice to her deception.
As if being spanked by two harsh highlanders is not enough, to then realise she has somehow misplaced four and a half centuries…
Anyway. here’s the blurb…
After she becomes lost in a thick mist while hiking near the borders of Scotland, Charlene Kelly is shocked to encounter two men on horseback. To her horror, the pair—both of whom are dressed in Scottish tartans—accost her and won’t let her go. Though the men speak with accents so strong they seem to come from another era, Charlene is able to gather that they believe she is a thieving boy. Unsure what else to do, Charlene plays along.
When Will Sinclair and Robbie MacBride discover that their captive is in fact a woman—and quite a beautiful one at that—there is only one thing to be done. She must be punished for her deception, and punished thoroughly. A switch applied to her bare bottom does the job well, and soon enough the two men are comforting Charlene as she nurses her bright red, sore backside.
Upon learning that the highlanders are hand-carrying an important message from Elizabeth of England to the court of Mary, Queen of Scots, it finally dawns on Charlene that she is no longer in her own time. Though she is desperate to find a way home, Will and Robbie are both unlike any man she has ever met, and their unabashed dominance awakens in her a powerful need to submit. Soon enough, she finds herself blushing with shame and quivering with desire as she is taken long and hard by two rugged highlanders at once. But can these hardened warriors keep her safe from the perils of a world far more dangerous than the one she left behind?
Publisher’s Note: Shared by the Highlanders is an erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes including threesomes, anal play.
And of course I have an excerpt to share. In this snippet her two highlanders are taking issue with Charlie’s pretence. They have their own way of dealing with dishonesty and deception.
“Why are ye pretending to be a lad, wee Charlie?”
“I’m not. I just… you assumed. I never said.”
Robbie takes up the questioning. “You knew, and ye let us continue to believe ye were a boy. Even when I was roughing you up you never let on.” Robbie’s tone has hardened, and now carries a hint of menace that was absent before. He’s angry, though I don’t really understand what grounds he can possibly imagine these two have to take issue with me. They’re the ones who grabbed me, held me against my will, tied me to a tree, then forced me to remain with them all night. If anyone should be aggrieved it’s me.
“What difference would it have made?”
“If none, then why the deception?” This from Will who has reined his horse to a stop. Robbie does likewise and I take the opportunity to scramble to the ground.
“I never intended to deceive you. I just, I thought it would be simpler. That’s all.” I stand between the two horses, my neck bent as I stare up at them, my gaze going from one to the other implacable face. “If you want to you can just leave me here. I can manage.”
One side of Robbie’s mobile mouth lifts in a parody of a smile. “I don’t think so.”
“What? Why not. You said…”
“That we’d release you come the morning, aye. But that was when we thought ye were just a lad, chancing his arm at lifting some easy pickings from weary travellers. Things have changed.”
“They haven’t. It makes no difference. You have to let me go. You can’t…”
“Can’t what, Charlie?” Will’s tone is soft as he leans over in his saddle to study me as I cringe below him.
There’s a rustle behind me, and I spin around to see Robbie dismounting. His features are set in a harsh, firm expression, and I’m every bit as terrified now as I was when I found myself facing the wolves. Sick to my stomach, I put out my hands defensively as though I could hold either of them off if they decided to overpower me. But the pair of them – it’s hopeless.
“Please, let me go. Please, don’t…”
“So this is why. You believed if we knew you were a wench we would rape you. Or worse.”
“I, I don’t know. Perhaps. Please…”
“Didn’t you. That’s what you think, isn’t it Charlie?” Will is also dismounting, but his voice has remained soft. Is he attempting to comfort me? To reassure? It’s not working.
“Yes. Can you blame me? I didn’t know what you might do. I didn’t know what was happening, why you kidnapped me. I still don’t. I just wanted to survive, and you said you’d let me go. I believed you. I thought if you knew I was female that might change.”
“You were right about that. These borders are no place for a wench to be wandering around alone. A band of reivers might easily pass this way and they won’t pander to your delicate sensibilities, lass. Nor would those wolves if you’d been on your own. Unprotected, you’ll not last the day, lass.”
“Reivers? I don’t understand. What are reivers and why would I need to be protected from anyone. Except you two of course.”
The two of them regard me oddly, exchanging quizzical looks. Robbie is next to speak.
“Girl, you say some odd things, and you have a most peculiar attitude towards your own safety. You seem to be in mortal fear of us, yet you have no regard for the very real danger presented by hungry wolves or lawless raiders from north of the border. Be that as it may though, we can’t leave you to fend for yourself in this wilderness. You’ll be remaining with us until we reach a town where you have kin, or failing that you can return to Stirling with us and we’ll find a place for you there. The MacBride keep can always find room for a decent serving wench, especially one with skills in healing as you seem to possess. And before you start your bloody protesting again, please be assured your virtue is safe from us. Neither one of us has ever found it necessary to take a lass against her will, and you’ll not be finding yourself to be the first.”
I latch on to the one thing that stands out from Robbie’s little pronouncement. “I can’t go to Stirling with you.”
“You’ll do as you’re told, lass. Which brings us to the next matter we need to address.” Robbie glances around, his gaze coming to rest on a small stone building about hundred yards from us. Beside it stands a sturdy oak tree, already tall enough to be spreading its branches over the solid looking roof. He turns to Will. “That should do fine, do you think? That bough sticking out to the side?”
Will nods. “Good choice. Best sling a blanket over it though. We don’t want her getting all scratched, after all. Striping her arse is punishment enough I reckon.”
“What? What are you talking about?” I so do not like the sound of this. Any discussion of my arse and punishment surely heralds disaster.
As Will peers into his saddlebag, presumably in search of the blanket he mentioned, Robbie continues the explanation.
“Well, lass, there’s the matter of honesty. And truth, you understand. We set high store by it, and we will have it from you. Always. And from your argumentative tone I daresay your obedience is soon to become an issue too. It’s time for you to learn what the consequences will be when you lie to us, or if you fail to obey an instruction. With luck, and if you prove to be a fast learner, it may not be necessary to administer another punishment spanking for some time. But right now, we have no real alternative.”
“Spanking! No way. You are not spanking me.”
Robbie grins, his expression unrepentant. And determined. “We are, lass. Right here and now. See yonder oak beside the stock shelter there? You’ll be bent over the branch that stretches out to the side, your wrists and ankles tied together to make sure you don’t shift from where we place you. You’ll be naked of course, your arse tilted up for easy reach. Then you’ll take six strokes of the switch. From each of us.”
“No! No, you can’t do that. That would be… it would be – assault.”
“Aye, you could call it that I daresay, since you’ll not be acquiescent by the sound of things. Don’t look so stricken lass, it’ll soon be done with and we can all be on our way.”
“You promised I wouldn’t be hurt. Last night, you said that.”
“I think what we actually promised was that we would do you no harm. And we won’t. A little firm discipline though, now that’s another matter entirely. I’ve yet to meet the woman whose disposition was not the better for a well administered paddling. And most are truly thankful for it too, in the fullness of time of course.”
“You’re mad. The pair of you. You should be locked up. If you lay a hand on me, just one hand, I’ll report you, and, and…” I give up my attempt to reason with them and fall back on the only remaining option that makes any sense to me. I turn and I run.
I get all of three paces before I’m grabbed from behind and swung around in Robbie’s powerful arms. I’m kicking, screaming, biting, putting up all the fight I can muster and more besides. My situation may be hopeless, but instinct has taken over and I’m fighting for my life. Or so it seems to me. At some level I’ve registered what he said about hurting and harming, and his references to all of us getting on our way suggests I’m not to be too seriously injured. But even so, I’m not taking this quietly.
I tend to draw on my own experience to lend colour, detail and realism to my plots and characters. An incident here, a chance remark there, a bizarre event or quirky character, any of these can spark a story idea.
When not writing – which is not very often these days – my time is divided between my role as resident taxi driver for my teenage daughter, and caring for a menagerie of dogs, rabbits, tortoises. And a very grumpy cockatiel.
I have twenty four (at the last count) titles on general release with publishers on both sides of the Atlantic, and I have several more in the pipeline. All my books feature BDSM. I write explicit stories, always hot, but they offer far more than just sizzling sex. I like to read about complex characters, and compelling plots, so that’s what I write too. Strong, demanding Doms are a given, often paired with new submissives who have a lot to learn.
I have a pile of story ideas still to work through, and keep thinking of new ones at the most unlikely moments, so you can expect to see a lot more from me.
